HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — French supermarket chain Big C on November 4 signed agreements with RMIT University Viet Nam and the Asian Institute of Technology in Viet Nam for two retail management training programmes in 2015-16.

The 12-month "Future senior managers" programme is open to candidates with three to five years of work and management experience, while the 10-month "Future managers" is meant for young trainees with less than two years' work experience. The theory parts will respectively be designed and taught by RMIT and AIT-VN.

Big C will fund the programmes to the tune of over US$100,000 besides providing the trainees with on-the-job training and jobs after completion.

The programmes start this month with 36 trainees chosen from more than 2,000 applicants.

Besides fully subsidising tuition fees, Big C will also pay the trainees a monthly internship allowance, subsidies for lunch and transport, accommodation for those from outside HCM City, voluntary health and accident insurance, and others.

Fredric William Swierczek, AIT-VN director, said Viet Nam's retail market is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 8-9 per cent in the next few years, leading to high demand for human resources, especially retail managers. — VNS
