Binh Duong-based Belgian brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev Vietnam has given scholarships worth VNĐ10 million (US$438) each to 47 local children who have been orphaned by COVID-19.

The scholarships, called ‘Let’s back to school’, were given last month in the province’s Tan Uyen and Ben Cat towns, with the children selected from a list provided by the Ben Cat Red Cross and Tan Uyen Youth Union.

In the latest wave of the pandemic that began in April, many children have lost their parents and close relatives and face enormous challenges, especially those from poor families.

Truong Van Toan, head of legal and corporate affairs at the company, said the orphans need support to overcome their trauma and stabilise their lives.

Founded in 1366, the company operates in many countries and has 170,000 employees.

It owns more than 630 beer brands in 150 countries like include Budweiser, Corona, Beck's, Leffe, and Hoegaarden.

It is among the five biggest fast moving consumer goods companies. — VNS
