HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Bao Viet Life Insurance Company will compensate the victims of a bus crash that occurred in central Khanh Hoa Province's Khanh Vinh District last Friday.

The driver failed to brake and hit a cliff while crossing Hon Giao Mountain Pass, killing nine people and wounding 21 others.

The bus owner, Da Nang-based Thanh Tien Hoang Hai Tung Tourism and Services Co, had taken out insurance against life and vehicle tolls, said Bao Viet assessment official Hoang Minh Huy.

Bao Viet affiliates in Da Nang and Khanh Hoa had co-operated to advance over VND100 million (US$4,700) for the families of those killed in the crash, as well as VND5 million ($240) for each severely wounded person and VND2-3 million ($95-143) for each slightly injured.

"We will continue to financially assist the victims after a final police conclusion is available," Huy said.

Bao Viet will compensate a maximum amount of VND50 million ($2,400) for each dead passenger, he added.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urgently asked authorities to provide emergency aid to victims and conduct regular vehicle inspections to prevent the same thing from happening again. — VNS
