Three companies, including a Vietnamese firm, agreed to develop solar power projects in Champasak and Sekong provinces in the south of Laos on Wednesday.

According to the Vientiane Times, investors National Consulting Group Sole Company, Power Company Limited Thepvongsa and Vietnamese Wealth Power Group signed contracts to build a 500MW solar power plant on ​​more than 720ha in Lamam District, Sekong Province with an expected output of 739 GWh per year at a total investment of US$ 332.3 million.

They will also build another 80MW project on ​​93.1ha in both Khong and Pathoumphone districts in Champasak Province with the expected output of 123GWh per year at the cost of the $57.3 million.

The two plants are expected to provide 10 per cent of the electricity output for local demand in Laos while the remaining output will be exported to neighbouring countries of Viet Nam and Myanmar. — VNS
