The number of Vietnamese enterprises that have become tier-1 suppliers for Samsung has grown to 35 and is expected to reach 50 by 2020.

In 2014, only four enterprises were tier-1 suppliers to Samsung, according to information released at a supporting industry seminar held at the Samsung Electronics HCM City Complex (SEHC) recently.Around 14 Vietnamese enterprises producing optical cables, resin and screws took part in the recent event, and eight of the enterprises had already completed a consultation programme on productivity and quality control conducted by industrial experts from Samsung South Korea.

At the seminar, standard components for products and components for Samsung’s factories in Viet Nam were on display, among other items.

Speaking at the event, Choi Joo Ho, President of Samsung Electronics Viet Nam, said: “Samsung is always willing to accompany, co-operate and provide technical support to Vietnamese enterprises to join the supply chain, and thereby help the development of Viet Nam’s supporting industry.”

To realise this goal, along with the annual supporting industry exhibition, Samsung conducts other practical activities such as the consulting programme on improvement of labour productivity and training of 200 Vietnamese to become key personnel in the field of consultation and training.

Since 2014, the annual event has been organised by Samsung in Ha Noi and HCM City to search for and connect with domestic component suppliers for the company's global supply chain. — VNS
