Around 5,000 people, including Government workers, members of the armed forces, students, youths, workers and seniors, took part yesterday in an event called the “2017 Olympic day run for public health” organised on Nguyen Hue Street in HCM City’s District 1.

Jointly organised by the city Department of Culture and Sports and People’s Committee, the run was meant to implement a programme called “All the people practise physical training following great Uncle Ho”, mark the 71st anniversary of National Sports Day, the day that Uncle Ho wrote the article titled “Exercising for health, calling people to exercise” (27/3/1946), 86th anniversary of the establishment of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Day (26/3/1931).

“Olympic day run for public health 2017” is an annual community sport event that has been organised since 2015 to raise awareness about the important role of exercise in protecting people’s health, improving their quality of life, creating a healthy community and strengthening solidarity among people.

Following the success of recent events, the “2017 Olympic day run for public health” proved to be a meaningful event in implementing the “To Be Healthy for Establishing Careers and Preserving the country” programme in HCM City and contributing to raising awareness of the need for good health to study, work, and protect the country.

Attendees ran around Nguyen Hue Street from 23 district in the city.

In addition to the mass run, attendees also took part in various cultural and sports activities in line with the sporting spirit of the event.

We appreciate the presence of Ho Chi Minh City’s businesses, including Gamuda Land Joint Stock Company as Diamond Sponsor.

We believe that the event would become an annual community sport event that enhances the sporting spirit. — VNS
