HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Around 17,000 people last week took part in the 2015 Terry Fox Run, a major annual charity event organised by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam to raise money for cancer research.

This year the event raised nearly VND1.7 billion (US$80,000).

This year the event marked the 15th year of sponsorship by life insurer Manulife Viet Nam, 1,000 of whose employees and agents took part in the event.

The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive event for people to get together as individuals, families and groups to raise funds. All the money raised is used for cancer research in Viet Nam.

It has so far funded purchases of pathology equipment for the Oncology Hospital in HCM City, including an oral cancer screening project managed by the University Hospital for Pharmacology and Medicine and the University Hospital for Dentistry of HCM City.

It is now currently reviewing project funding for oncology research and pathological training at the Oncology Hospital. — VNS
