HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam and Malaysia have signed an agreement to strengthen co-operation in information exchange, training and in taking joint initiatives to ensure safety and security in civil aviation.

The agreement was signed by Director of Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam Lai Quang Thanh and his Malaysian counterpart Dato' Sri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman in Kuala Lumpur on November 6.

Thanh was part of the transport ministry's delegation led by Minister Dinh La Thang, which participated in the 21st ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting (ATM-21) and related meetings held in Kuala Lumpur from November 4 to 6.

The participants discussed key issues in the aviation sector, such as the Kuala Lumpur transport strategic action plan for the 2016-25 period. The 10-year plan aims to improve the sector's operational efficiency, especially as a single ASEAN market in civil aviation and goods delivery.

Malaysia is one of three large markets in the ASEAN. The two countries have been collecting feedback to finalise a new draft aviation agreement, which is expected to replace the old one that was signed in 1978. — VNS
