HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam on October 2 signed an agreement allowing Poland to export apples to Viet Nam, Nguyen Van Giang from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Administrative Office, said to Biz Hub.
According to Radio Poland, Poland's Minister of Agriculture Marek Sawicki said the agreement was very important because his country was seeking new markets for its agricultural products, including apples. Viet Nam was one of its potential markets in Asia.
With an annual harvest output of 2.5 million tonnes of apples, Poland is the largest exporter of the fruit in Europe and the third-largest in the world, behind the United States and China.
Last year, Poland exported more than 1 million tonnes of apples. Russia used to be its largest market for the fruit.
However, when Russia suspended imports on August 1, 2014, Poland was forced to seek new markets.
In March 2015, a delegation from the Polish government paid a working visit to Viet Nam to complete legal procedures that paved the way for the export of Polish apples to Viet Nam. — VNS
