HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam joined 12 other countries in performing manoeuvres for cyber security incidence responses at the 2014 ASEAN Computer Emergency Response Team (CERTS) Incident Drills (ACID) here on September 24.
According to the Infonet news website, participating Vietnamese experts were from government agencies and technology companies such as the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) under the Ministry of Information and Communications, Viettel, VNPT and Bkav.
Participants from other countries include AusCERT of Australia, CNCERT of China, JPCERT of Japan, CERT-In of India and SACERT of Singapore.
In the morning, Vietnamese cyber security experts played the role of hackers exploiting and attacking a hole in an Indian website's server. Five steps were carried out, including hole exploitation, attacks to change the website interface, stealing of the accounts and passwords of website administrators, taking over of the website database and transferring the database to another website, and escalation of attacks on another server.
In the afternoon, they played the role of an organisation under attack, analysing attack scenarios and drawing lessons from co-operation in cyber security incident responses.
ACID was initiated at the fifth ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers Meeting in Ha Noi in 2005. The drill aimed to strengthen cooperation among CERTs in ASEAN and its dialogue partners, and to test and refine the points of contact in each incident response team and their incident handling procedures. — VNS
