Van Don Airport receives first flight


The Van Don International Airport received the first flight at 10 am on July 11 to prepare for official operation of the airport in December.

Van Don International Airport received its first flight at 10am today before if officially opens in December.

This is the first airport to be built by a private Vietnamese firm. Construction started in March 2016 by Sun Group with total investment VND7.7 trillion (US$333.48 million) under the build-operation-transfer (BOT) model.

Airport technicans support the plane to land safely at the airport.

Chairman of Quang Ninh Province’s People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long said the success of Van Don International Airport would help the province attract more investment for fast and sustainable development.

Passengers of the flight are welcomed at the airport.

The project will also open trade and development opportunities for the economic and tourism development of Van Don and contribute to turning Quang Ninh into an international tourist centre.

The airport terminal covers nearly 27,000 sq.m, and will have a capacity of 2.5 million passengers per year by 2020.

It will able to handle seven aircraft at a time before being expanded to 15 by 2030.
