The Vinh Long University of Technology Education and Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) opened a training centre for the automobile industry in the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long.
The opening, on Monday, marks the first time TMV has expanded its training programme to the south-western region in order to meet the increasing demand for personnel in the automobile industry.
In the first phase of the programme from 2017 to 2020, TMV will provide the university with modern equipment worth US$80,000 for auto repair training.
Rector of the university, Cao Hung Phi, said the university is one of the leading auto training facilities in the south, which is tasked with supplying hi-tech human resources, particularly for the south-western and southern regions.
The university has cooperated with the company to set up the technical training centre, which is located within the university’s campus and includes two rooms for theory education and eight rooms for technical practices with complete equipment and tools.
Director General of TMV, Toru Kinoshita, said the centre is the sixth of its kind in Viet Nam.
He said the Vinh Long University of Technology Education will become a key high-quality training centre that is able to provide skilled technicians for TMV in the future.
The Toyota technical training programme has been carried out by TMV since 2000, aimed at helping students from auto vocational training colleges access Toyota technologies and practise repairing during school hours.
So far, more than 2,500 students have received training under the programme, including 540 recruited to work in TMV, nationwide. — VNS
