TIEN GIANG (Biz Hub) – Statistics from Tien Giang Province's Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) show that export turnover for the province's businesses over the first two months of 2015 reached US$245 million.

The value accounts for 15.3 per cent of the year's target and marks a 26.5 per cent increase in export revenue compared with the same period last year.

In February, when business operations generally grind to a halt due to week-long Tet (Lunar New Year) Festival celebrations, the province still exported goods worth more than $112 million, 15.8 per cent higher than the same period last year.

In the first two months of 2015, the province's major exports to the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia, including processed seafood, garments and textiles, leather shoes, and bags, increased remarkably.

Specifically, the province has exported nearly 28,000 tonnes of seafood, gaining $61 million; 11.5 million garments, earning $55.2 million; and 4 million pairs of shoes, earning nearly $51 million.

According to Ngo Van Tuan, Director of DoIT, the export value reflects the efficiency of the province's export management programme as well as the efforts of local businesses.

This year, the province will continue encouraging businesses to diversify their exports and conduct e-commerce transactions effectively.

The department is committed to providing timely market information to local enterprises to help them boost trade, Tuan told Vietnamplus.

The province has set a target to export goods worth $1.6 billion, which is 14.3 per cent higher than last year. – VNS
