The Vietnamese sugar industry has led the region in sugar productivity for the first time, according to the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association (VSSA).
The Ministry of Industry and Trade on Tuesday will impose anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on cane sugar originating from Thailand at an overall margin rate of 47.64 per cent.
TTC Attapeu Sugar Cane Sole Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Thanh Thanh Cong Bien Hoa JSC (TTC Sugar), will export its sugar to the European market following an agreements with the UK’s ED&F Man Sugar.
Domestic and international experts in the sugarcane industry gathered at the fifth TTC annual international sugarcane conference in Phan Thiet City in Binh Thuan Province to discuss ways to help the Vietnamese sugarcane industry develop sustainably.
The Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group imported from Laos more than 1,300 tonnes of sugar worth US$803,320 in June through the Bo Y International Border Gate in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.
The quota for Laos sugar imports (coded HS 1701) is 50,000 tonnes this
year, and the import tariff is 2.5 per cent, according to the Ministry
of Industry and Trade.
The domestic sugar industry needs assistance as the sector is facing a
high inventory and threats from illegally-imported products, the Viet
Nam Sugar and Sugar Cane Association (VSSA) has suggested.
