The benchmark VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange inched up 0.06 per cent to close at 1,012.48 points.
The southern market index climbed 0.77 per cent to close Monday at 1,011.86 points.
More than 118.5 million shares were exchanged on the southern bourse, worth VND2.65 trillion (US$113.3 million).
The blue-chip VN30 Index was up 0.01 per cent to 932.85 points.
Fourteen of the 30 largest stocks by market capitalisation ended in positive territory while 11 slumped. The other five were flat.
The oil sector contributed to the rise of the VN-Index with gainers including PetroVietnam Gas JSC (GAS), PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PVS), PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Services Corporation (PVD) and Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (BSR).
Real estate stocks also performed well. Codes like Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD), Dat Xanh Group JSC (DXG), Hoa Binh Construction Group Joint Stock Company (HBC) and Ha Do Group Joint Stock Company (HDG) all climbed.
On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index lost 0.01 per cent to end at 110.87 points.
The northern market index gained 0.40 per cent to end Monday at 110.88 points.
More than 38.4 million shares were traded on the northern bourse, worth VND472 billion.
