Shares fall in early trade

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Shares opened the week lower on both the bourses in the morning session.

The VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange lost 0.79 per cent to close at 581.81 points.

The trading value reached VND1.3 trillion, or US$61.9 million, on the exchange of more than 73.7 million shares.

With 23 losers and only five gainers, the VN30-Index, which tracks the southern city's 30 largest shares by capitalisation and liquidity, dropped 1.23 per cent to finish at 656.67 points. Among these, PetroVietnam Drilling (PVD), PetroVietnam Low Pressure Gas Distribution (PGD), Hoa Sen Group (HSG) and Vinamilk (VNM) posted large losses.

The gainers included Bao Viet Group (BVH), Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVT).

The dip in the northern bourse was greater with the HNX-Index sliding 1.69 per cent to end at 81.71 points. The HNXFF-Index closed 1.61 per cent lower at 81.31 points.

Tracking the top shares, the HNX30-Index finished this morning at 163 points, 1.85 per cent lower.

More than 49 million shares changed hands on the northern bourse with a total trading value of VND446 billion, or $21.2 million. — VNS
