Singaporean companies in Việt Nam have pledged a total of VNĐ1.5 billion (US$61,130) to aid in relief and recovery endeavors, showcasing solidarity and empathy towards the Vietnamese people after the country was strongly affected by Typhoon Yagi.
This pledge is an "SG Community Cares" initiative, sponsored by Singaporean businesses in Việt Nam, in coordination with the Singapore Embassy in Việt Nam.
Typhoon Yagi marks one of the most severe storms to hit Việt Nam in recent history, leaving a trail of widespread devastation, suffering, and tragic loss of life due to flooding and landslides.
Prominent Singaporean contributors to this noble cause are CapitaLand Development (Vietnam), Keppel, Mapletree, Sea Limited, Sembcorp Industries, United Overseas Bank (Vietnam), and YCH Group.
His Excellency Jaya Ratnam, the Ambassador of Singapore to Việt Nam, welcomed this impactful gesture, stating, “I am very proud to see Singapore businesses come together to lend support to Việt Nam in such a meaningful way. Typhoon Yagi has had a devastating impact on so many lives across Northern Việt Nam. Singapore stands in solidarity with our friends in Việt Nam at a difficult time for them.” — VNS
