Sales of locally assembled cars fall in January

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Cars sales in January in Viet Nam fell by one per cent to touch 19,979 units, compared with the previous month, but increased by 80 per cent year-on-year.

In a sales report, Chairman of Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) Yoshihisa Maruta announced that nearly 13,500 cars that were assembled domestically and more than 6,490 imported units were sold, 0.3 per cent and four per cent, respectively, lower than that of December last year.

As for VAMA members, Yoshihisa Maruta said that they sold 16,110 cars, 7,164 units higher or an 80 per cent increase year-on-year in January.

The Thaco Group led the sales with brands such as Thaco bus, Thaco truck, Peugeot and VinaMazda, besides Thaco KIA, accounting for 35.7 per cent of the market share.

It was followed by Toyota Motor Vietnam with 26.5 per cent of the market share, and a growth rate that was 36 per cent higher than the same period last year. — VNS
