Nestle MILO and VTV Digital have launched a programme called ‘10 Golden Years for Kid Development – Do not miss out’ to raise parents' awareness of the importance of children’s development stages between five and 15 years.

According to the Swiss-based Nestle Research Centre, five to 15 years is the period when children have a huge transformation in physique, brain and behaviour, and is the bridge for the transition from childhood to adulthood.

During this period, children can maximise the development of cognitive skills, immunity and brain and musculoskeletal growth, changes that are really important for reaching their fullest potential as adults, it said.

Nestle scientists also stress that every choice in nutrition, energy and exercise for children during this period determines their future development.

Doctor specialist level II Do Thi Ngoc Diep, vice president of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, said though there have been many programmes to communicate knowledge about nutrition, parents continue to have limitations in understanding and practising nutrition, energy and movement for children during these 10 golden years for development.

When their children enter school age, many people pay less attention to nutrition thinking their children would be proactive in choosing their foods and would gradually grow tall and healthy, she said.

“This is an incorrect perception, and if parents understand that this is an extremely important stage for a child's comprehensive development, they will pay much more attention."

Ali Abbas, director of MILO and Dairy Products, Nestle Vietnam, said: “With the … programme, Nestle MILO wants to join hands with nutrition experts and relevant agencies to improve the stature and endurance of Vietnamese people".

Together with the ongoing 'Active Vietnam' programme, the community project is Nestle MILO's effort to contribute to Viet Nam’s national nutrition strategy for 2021–30, he added
