Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc gave the green signal to a ultra thin tempered glass factory in Yen Khanh District in the northern province of Ninh Binh.

The factory will have a daily capacity of 1,200 tonnes.

Phuc ordered Ninh Binh People’s Committee to collaborate with the Ministry of Construction in directing the investor and supervising the implementation of the project to ensure that the products are of the right kind and meet the environmental standards and technical regulations.

The project, invested by CFG--Ha Long Industry Company Ltd, will be divided into two phases. The first phase is designed to have a daily capacity of 600 tonnes and will be operational before 2022. In the second phase, the factory’s capacity will be increased by another 600 tonnes and will come into effect before 2027.

At present, the annual glass production capacity of domestic factories is estimated at 3,480 tonnes per day, equivalent to 243 million sq.m per year, of which float glass production is 2,950 tonnes per day or 206 million sq.m per year (six factories), while flat glass is 530 tonnes per day or 37 million sq.m per year (two factories). Most of these factories are located in areas with availibity in raw material and technical infrastructure in all three regions of North, Central and South Viet Nam.

To develop the glass industry, the Prime Minister recently tasked the construction ministry to review the master planning on construction material development by 2020 and vision to 2030, in which it needs to focus on the types of quality glass to meet the demand of local use and export, as well as promoting the efficiency of the use of natural resources and advanced processing technology. — VNS
