Nguyen Duy Hung becomes SSI's largest shareholder

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) President Nguyen Duy Hung and Duong Mat Troi Investment Corporation bought the last 22.33 million SSI shares from ANZ's Viet Nam branch on December 17.

The financial site ndh.vn disclosed that the shares, equivalent to 6.3 per cent of SSI stakes, were transferred via Vietnam Securities Depository. However, the value of the deals was not published.

ANZ, an Australian bank, announced its divestment of its entire portfolio of 61 million shares in SSI in September after seven years of co-operation with the company.

Batches of 39.6 million SSI shares each were sold to six domestic investors in October.

An SSI representative said that foreign investors now hold 30.2 per cent of SSI stakes following the transactions. Therefore, 18.8 per cent will be available for foreign investors in SSI.

Nguyen Duy Hung has become the biggest shareholder of SSI, owning 11.4 per cent of its stake, or nearly 40.3 million shares. Each SSI share price has been calculated to amount to VND28.500 (US$1.338) on December 18. Hung owns VND1.148.5 trillion ($53.92 million) of the shares, which makes him the 16th richest man in the local stock market.

Hung's brothers' companies also hold another 11.95 per cent of the stake in SSI. His family now owns 23.35 per cent of SSI's capital. SSI's latest report revealed that it holds capital worth VND3.538 trillion ($166 million). — VNS
