HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Ministry of Transport and central Phu Yen Province's People's Committee opened a new section of National Highway No 1 yesterday.
The province renovated a 66.2km section of the road, starting in September 2013. It was designed with four lanes – two for automobiles at a speed limit of 80km per hour. The other two lanes are earmarked for vehicles without engines like bicycles and cyclos.
The Government funded the VND4.3 trillion (US$191.5 million) project.
The updated section starts in Song Cau Township and ends in Dong Hoa District.
Fourteen reinforced concrete bridges were built on the road. The longest is a 260m flyover crossing Chi Thanh Town.
In the process, 4,622 households in Phu Yen Province were removed and resettled. The project was finished three months ahead of schedule.
A representative from the provincial transport department said the section would help lighten traffic congestion and reduce the number of accidents in the area. — VNS
