A large number of residents in Hau Thanh Commune are set to greatly benefit from a cable-stayed bridge that opened to traffic on Jan 11 in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang Province.

More than 400 people, old and young, including school students, in Hau Thanh Commune were very happy to see the inauguration of the Khang Phuc Bridge over Canal 28 in Cai Be District.

They no longer have to cross the river on ferry boats, which are quite risky during the flooding season.

The 87m long and 2.5m wide bridge has a capacity of one tonne and is expected to serve more than 400 people daily.

It cost VND3.2 billion (US$138,244) and took five months to build, with the main sponsor, Masan Consumer Corporation (MSC), and the Nam Phuong Foundation contributing 71 per cent of the cost and the local government the rest.

The bridge also helps link Hau Thanh with other communes like My Hoi and Hoa Khanh in Cai Be District.

The largest cable-stayed bridge that Masan has ever funded is not only set to make transport more convenient in the area but also promote trade and commerce.
