The People’s Committee of the central province of Quang Tri held a ceremony on Tuesday to announce the Prime Minister’s approval of the construction of My Thuy Port to the project’s investors.
The project, which will be located in Dong Nam Economic Zone in Hai An Commune, Hai Lang District, will cost over VND14.23 trillion (US$608 million), over VND2 trillion of which will come from the investor My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Company and the remainder from other sources.
The 685ha port will be home to 10 wharves capable of receiving vessels up to 100,000 tonnes.
During the first stage from 2018-25, four wharves will be built with investment of nearly VND5 trillion. There will be another three constructed at the same cost during the second stage from 2026-31, and the remaining three worth more than VND4.3 trillion in the third stage from 2032-36.
The port will mainly serve the Dong Nam Economic Zone, industrial zones in Quang Tri, and cargo in transit from Laos and the northeast region of Thailand on the East-West economic corridor.
Speaking at the ceremony, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chinh asked the investor to work with partners to arrange capital and launch the project this September.
He vowed all possible support to them to complete the project on schedule.
The Dong Nam Economic Zone is the only economic zone in the province. It was formed in 2015, taking 23,792ha land from 17 communes in the districts of Hai Lang, Trieu Phong and Gio Linh. So far, almost 90 per cent of its area has been left unused. — VNS
