Man fined for spreading rumour


The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has fined a 33-year-old man VND15 million (US$700) for spreading a rumour in February.

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has fined a 33-year-old man VND15 million (US$700) for spreading a rumour in February.

The man, a bank officer, is alleged to have said that the chairman of the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) had been arrested. This caused chaos in financial and currency markets.

The man is reported to have made the claim while using the name casperkid on www.tathy.com.

Another two men were also arrested on Wednesday by the Ministry of Public Security for allegedly spreading the same rumour through online forums. Their arrests follow four months of investigations.

MIC may also fine the two. They were said to be using the website www.f319.com. One, named HungPV, is a 37-year-old officer with a technology production company in HCM City. The other, using the name Danghocdoi, works in the environmental field. — VNS
