Ly Son island to develop ‘green and clean'

QUANG NGAI (Biz Hub) — The Thien Tan Group in Quang Ngai and Nikken Sekken Civil Engineering Limited Company from Japan inked an agreement on a consultancy and planning project for Ly Son Island, 30km offshore from Quang Ngai Province.

Chairman of the Group, Huynh Kim Lap told Viet Nam News that the agreement will create a mockup for the island construction and development plan with a 1/2000 scale.

He said the plan will help the island district develop as a ‘green and clean' tourism destination with a sustainable outlook.

Lam said the plan costs VND17 billion (US$764,000), of which VND10 billion will be funded by the Bank of Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV).

A corner of Ly Son Island, 30km off the coast of Quang Ngai Province, is planned to build as a tourism attraction and green island.

Last year, the province planned Ly Son as part of a 7,900ha sea reserve off the coast of the island and Binh Chau Commune. The island is planned to have Global Geopark status.

Lý Son attracts over 100,000 tourists per year, but accommodation, including 18 hotels and guest houses and home-stay service with a total of 1,000 rooms are overloaded in the high-tourist summer season.

In 2014, the central province had listed 16 priority projects for socio-economic development with total investment capital of $110 million.

The Island is a tranquil destination with inhabitants living off the farming of garlic and spring onions and fishing.

Last year, Thien Tan Group also started construction of the Thien Tan eco-urban zone project and Thien But Park in central Quang Ngai Province.

In 2014, the group also built the first 19.2MW solar power plant in Viet Nam with a total investment of $40 million.

According to the latest reports, the central province has attracted 36 foreign direct investment projects, worth $4 billion. —  VNS
