The Philippines’ JG Summit Holdings expects to participate in public private co-operation projects to develop a sustainable tea industry in Viet Nam, said its CEO Lance Y. Gokongwei.
The Philippines’ JG Summit Holdings was looking at public-private co-operation projects to develop a sustainable tea industry in Viet Nam, said CEO Lance Y. Gokongwei.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Monday, Gokongwei also said his group had a programme to promote plastic recycling, joining in the coalition of anti-plastic waste businesses as well as 4.0 industrial programmes.
Phuc said Viet Nam’s export processing sector held a lot of potential and that Viet Nam was encouraging investment in this sector to increase the value of exports.
He mentioned the need for manufacturing enterprises to ensure food safety, environmental protection and sustainable development.
He said Viet Nam was moving toward a plastic-free society so he expected the group to make efforts to participate in this area, minimising the use of plastic packaging.
“The Government will create the best conditions for investors to be successful in Viet Nam,” Phuc said.
Emphasising the good traditional relations between Viet Nam and the Philippines, Phuc said he wanted to listen to the difficulties and problems that the group faced while operating in the country.
According to Gokongwei, JG Summit Holdings, among the top 300 Asian companies voted by Nikkei Asia Review, started operating in Viet Nam in 2003 in the food and beverage industry. The company had expanded exports and promoted its "Made in Vietnam" products in 10 countries. The group had total accumulated investment of US$200 million and more than 3,000 employees. — VNS
