HCM City wanted Samsung Group to open a research and development centre in the city to take advantage of its skilled human resources, a local official said.
Receiving General Director of Samsung Electronics Vietnam Choi Joo-ho on Thursday, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan congratulated Samsung on its production and business results in Viet Nam, saying the development of Samsung had contributed to Viet Nam-RoK relations.
Nhan said HCM City was willing to create favourable conditions for the company to expand its investment and participate in the Sai Gon Hi-Tech Park, and increase the number of local businesses joining Samsung’s supply chain.
He appreciated Samsung’s efforts to help improve the capacity of enterprises and train high-quality human resources for Viet Nam and the city in particular, and hoped for continued assistance from the company.
Choi voiced his wish to continue receiving support from the city’s leaders, departments and sectors so the company could reap more fruits in the coming time.
Sharing Samsung’s production and business results in Viet Nam in 2018, he said that the HCM City-based factory contributed US$3 billion to Samsung Vietnam’s total export turnover of around $60 billion.
Among the 630 businesses in Viet Nam which were part of the company’s supply chain, HCM City had 151 businesses, and that figure was expected to increase to 171, he said.
Samsung was working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to carry out a consultation support programme to raise the capacity of Vietnamese enterprises, including eight from HCM City. This year, it would help train 120 consultants for Viet Nam, of whom 60 live in the city, he added. — VNS
