The authorities of Hải Phòng City met with the business representatives late Wednesday to discuss measures to help them resume production after the super typhoon.
Industrial enterprises in Hải Phòng City have asked the city authorities for tax and fee reductions to reduce financial pressure after Typhoon Yagi.
They proposed the measure during a meeting with the management board of the Hải Phòng Economic Zone on late Wednesday.
The port city is one of the localities that was directly affected by the super typhoon.
Jung Hyeok, General Director of LS Metal Vina representing enterprises in the Deep C Industrial Zones at the meeting proposed that the industrial zone be pronounced ‘area specifically affected by disasters’ so it can receive proper support from the State.
Social security should pay a certain percentage of workers’ salary to reduce financial pressure for employers since business activities were suspended by the typhoon, and also to help them retain employees.
The enterprises also asked for certain costs – value added tax, electricity and water bills – to be reduced so they have more resources to resume operations.
Insurance companies should assess damages as quickly as possible and offer them compensations if applicable, Jung Hyeok said.
Representatives of other businesses asked the Hải Phòng Customs Department to quickly resolve procedures related to the equipment they imported that were damaged by the typhoon.
Nobuharu Shiina, General Director of Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing Vietnam Co Ltd said the company is actively reviewing the general damages to their business. They also asked their employees to actively report the damages their families endure so that the company could support them.
Trần Mạnh Hùng, Deputy Director of Hải Phòng’s Customs Department, said that they would do all they could to resolve the import procedures so that businesses have the equipment they need to resume production.
Lê Trung Kiên, Head of the Hải Phòng Economic Zone Management Board said he will report enterprises’ struggles to leaders of the city’s Party Committee and People’s Committee so timely support can be provided.
He will also work with relevant agencies to come up with the most beneficial solutions for businesses, such as declaring a state of emergency in the Deep C Industrial Zones, and make sure insurance compensations are provided where applicable.
He stressed that the city's greatest wish at this time is for businesses to soon resume production after the typhoon. He believed businesses will recover, like after the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring a strong supply chain from Hải Phòng to the global market. — VNS
