HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 6 May 2025 - Demand for cross-border medical services within the Greater Bay Area ("GBA") is increasing. A recent survey3 reveals that three in ten Hong Kong residents have sought medical treatment in mainland China, with over 76% recognising the benefits of having more treatment choices through cross-border options. To address the evolving healthcare needs of residents in the region, FWD Hong Kong ("FWD") has launched new cross-border medical solutions: the GBAssure Outpatient Plan4, which offers comprehensive outpatient coverage in designated cities within the GBA, and NobleCare Premier Medical Plan5, which provides lifetime medical protection across Greater China, Asia or worldwide6.
Furthermore, FWD is strengthening its partnership with HKSH Medical Group ("HKSH") to expand its one-stop cancer support services, adding cross-border doctor consultations and dedicated case nurse follow-up services. Cross-border healthcare solutions to meet growing GBA demand
A recent study reveals that in 2023 alone, Shenzhen provided up to 700,000 times3 of medical and healthcare services to Hong Kong residents. GBAssure Outpatient Plan: Seamless and convenient medical experience, no health underwriting required
Designed for individuals living, working, or frequently traveling between different cities in the GBA, this plan leverages a premier medical network covering Hong Kong, designated GBA cities in mainland China, and Macau6. It offers a range of first-in-market1 and extensive outpatient services, including general practitioners, dental care, Chinese medicine practitioners, psychiatric consultation, laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging and colonoscopy. Customers can access a dedicated booking platform through FWD eServices to instantly schedule a range of healthcare services, seamlessly enjoying a simpler and more convenient medical experience. Application process for the plan is straightforward and convenient, requiring no health underwriting or medical examination.
GBAssure Outpatient Plan covers four innovative and caring protection and services:
- First-in-market family plan extending the family care concept: Beyond three individual plans, the plan offers two family plan options, allowing three generations to share outpatient coverage under a single policy, safeguarding the holistic well-being of loved ones with no limit on number of family members7.
- Caring psychiatric consultation8: The plan provides consultations with psychiatrist, protecting customers' mental and emotional health.

This plan provides high-net-worth clients with superior lifetime cross-border medical protection and support:
- Flexible coverage without boundaries, the same premium rates apply within the same benefit level6 regardless of customers' place of residence. This plan offers unrestricted geographical coverage for emergency treatments accompanied by a choice of four distinct geographical areas for non-emergency treatment, and up to six deductible12 options to flexibly align with customers' individual needs.
- Full cover13 on medical expenses without lifetime limits: Full coverage for a comprehensive range of hospitalisation and surgical medical expenses, annual coverage limit for various benefit levels can reach up to HKD30 million, with guaranteed renewal14 up to age 101 (age next birthday).
- FWD Care services providing dedicated hospitalisation and surgical arrangements15: Benefit from a tailored, one-stop global medical solution, this covers all Grade 3A hospitals in mainland China, including over 300 premium hospitals with international VIP access. Customers can enjoy the convenience of cashless facility for hospitalisation, as well as exclusive medical companion services to assist with hospital admission registration.

Strengthening collaboration with HKSH to expand support services

According to the "FWD Hong Kong Claims Report 2024," cancer cases account for 71% of critical illness claims, reflecting the increasing demand for quality cancer treatment and case management. As the partnership reaches its five-year milestone, cancer case and rehabilitation planning consultation services will be further expanded and refined, with the addition of two major cancer support services for customers, including those with the NobleCare Premier Medical Plan:
- Cancer concierge service15: A dedicated case nurse assigned by HKSH will oversee and coordinate customers' entire treatment plan.
- Cross-border cancer doctor-to-doctor tele-opinion15: HKSH collaborates with designated hospitals in mainland China to conduct cross-border cancer doctor-to-doctor tele-opinion, providing professional cross-border medical advice based on customers' medical conditions and needs to ensure optimal cancer treatment.

8 Available for the User [User means the insured or family member (if applicable)] who receives Outpatient consultation with a Psychiatrist solely relating to Mental Illness in Mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau, where the consultation conducted in Mainland China is limited to the Outpatient department of Hospital. Waiting period of 180-day and 2-year are respectively applicable to Mental Illness and Perinatal Depression, counting from the Policy Date for the Insured and from the Family Member Coverage Effective Date for the relevant Family Member, please refer to Policy provisions for details.
9 Suitable for colonoscopies with medical necessity: The colonoscopy coupon can be used by the Policy Owner or Insured/ User who is at 18 or above (actual age) at the time of receiving colonoscopy services and is subject to prevailing terms and conditions as specified in the coupon.
10 Co-payment shall mean an amount that the Policy Owner is required to pay to the Panel Network for the relevant Health Services, dental care and colonoscopy services received by the User. The co-payment waived are those referred to in benefit 1(b) of the Benefit Schedule in the product brochure - General Practitioner
Online Consultation with Medicine Delivery (including up to 3 days of Basic Medication per visit). Long term medication for chronic diseases is not covered.
11 Online consultation is not applicable to an Insured / the User aged 5 years or below (actual age) on the date of the general practitioner online consultation and not available in Macau. During the online consultation, the Insured / User must be physically present in the same District (i.e. Hong Kong or any one of the Designated Mainland GBA Cities, as the case may be) as the location of the clinic at which the Physician provides the online consultation.
12 Deductible shall mean a fixed amount of Eligible Expenses or expenses that, in a Policy Year, the Policy Holder must pay before FWD shall reimburse the remaining Eligible Expenses or remaining expenses.
13 Full cover shall mean no itemised benefit sublimit, the actual amount of Eligible Expenses and other expenses charged after deducting the remaining Deductible (if any) and is subject to the Annual Benefit Limit. Full cover applies to selected benefit items only, while other benefit items are not fully covered and are subject to respective benefit item's limits. Please refer to Benefit Schedule and Policy Provisions for details. Full cover is limited to Reasonable and Customary charges or expenses incurred as a result of services which are Medically Necessary. Please refer to the "Important Words" section for the definitions of "Medically Necessary" and "Reasonable and Customary".
14 FWD shall renew the Policy at each policy anniversary up to the age of 101 (age next birthday) of the Insured Person as long as the requirements as stated in the renewal provisions of the Terms and Benefits of the Plan are met, in particular the change in the Place of Residence and change in the occupation of the Insured Person as mentioned in Section 3 of Part 4 of the Terms and Benefits of the Plan. FWD shall have the right to re-underwrite the Terms and Benefits of the Plan due to a change in the Place of Residence of the Insured Person or change in the occupation of the Insured Person upon Renewal. FWD shall carry out the re-underwriting solely in respect of the change in the Place of Residence or change in the occupation of the Insured Person. The re-underwriting result may be more advantageous or adverse to the Policy Owner and the Insured Person.
15 PREMIER THE ONEcierge (Global Medical Network), Second Medical Opinion Services, International SOS 24-hour Worldwide Assistance Services, Cross-border Cancer Management Program, Life Enrichment Program for Stroke, Dementia Support Program, MINDcierge, Elderly Home Care Services and Mainland China-focused Services are provided by third party service provider(s) which are not guaranteed renewable. FWD shall not be responsible for any act, negligence or omission of medical advice, opinion, service or treatment on the part of them. FWD reserves the right to amend, suspend or terminate the service without further notice. Life Enrichment Program for Stroke and Dementia Support Program are only available in Hong Kong. Elderly Home Care Services is only applicable if at the time of diagnosis, the Insured Person is aged 51 or above (age next birthday).
