HCM CITY (Biz Hub) – Many innovative new products are on display at the Food Ingredients (Fi) Viet Nam exhibition that opened in HCM City on May 18.

They include collagen, brown rice pilaf, a mixture of brown rice and fresh vegetables, alicook ice cream powder, a slow-melting, savoury powder, rice flour and its products and pea protein.

Jointly organised by UBM Asia and the HCM City Food and Foodstuff Association, Fi is a leading exhibition in the domestic food and beverage industry.

This year it has attracted 150 producers and distributors from 26 countries and territories.

Rungphech Chitanuwat, marketing director of UBM Asia, told Viet Nam News that the biggest difference this year was focus on "spotlight products," referring to products that exhibitors have developed in recent year.

The exhibition this year has also welcomed many new exhibitors, she said.

It targets improving the competitiveness of the industry in Viet Nam and the food safety situation in the country through specialised conferences.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, HCM City People's Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen said: "Food safety and hygiene are now the priorities of the People's Committee. We will give directions and enact policies to strictly manage all food and beverage products in Việt Nam, especially in HCM City. Thus, we will be able to enhance quality, ensure food safety and improve local companies' competitiveness."

Matching suppliers and buyers will be done on the sidelines of the exhibition enabling exhibitors to find what they are looking for as well as business opportunities.

The organisers said last year hundreds of business opportunities were found and the number is expected to increase this year.

From this year the annual exhibition will become biennial since, in this industry, it takes a long time to come with up innovative new products.

The exhibition, on at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre in District 7, closes on May 20. — VNS
