Military-run telecom provider, Viettel Group, and the Viet Nam National University (VNU) on Monday officially launched the School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE) - the first of its kind in Viet Nam.

This is the first training model between a business and a university in the country.

The SAE aims to provide high-quality human resource training in the aerospace technologies at university and post-university. It would also implement research and development (R&D) on scientific technologies in the sector for the country’s national security and defence.

The school would also promote international co-operation programmes in technology transfer.

The university approved the training programme for aerospace engineers, which links theory with practices in laboratories of Viettel Group and Viet Nam National Space Centre.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of VNU Nguyen Kim Son said the high-quality human resource in the aerospace sector has been a vital factor for the development of technology. The co-operation would ensure the success of a new technology in Viet Nam, while showing responsibilities of the university and Viettel in their duties with the country.

Nguyen Manh Hung, General Director of Viettel, said the school will enrol and train around 20 people a year. The training will last four and a half years.

The first enrolment will start in February 2018.

With a target to become one of the top 100 hi-tech national defence industry complexes in the world, Viettel has paid much attention to R&D in military and civil. — VNS
