Earnings from key product exports fall in January

Viet Nam’s trade value was estimated at US$29.3 billion in January, down 13 per cent from the previous month, according to the General Department of Customs. 

Of the figure, export turnover touched $14.6 billion, dropping by 12 per cent from December 2016, while import value was $14.7 billion, falling by 14 per cent month-on-month. 

Key products witnessed a decline in export revenue compared with last month’s figures, including phones and components (down 7.1 per cent), garments and textiles (down 10.8 per cent) and computers, electronic products and spare parts (down 14.1 per cent). 

Footwear exports also suffered a month-on-month fall of 10.2 per cent, while earnings from machines and spare parts dropped by 12.9 per cent. 

Export value of aquatic products and wood and wooden furniture saw the maximum declines of 16.2 per cent and 17.3 per cent, respectively. — VNA
