HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Finance has proposed to remove import tax for goods imported via e-commerce platforms that have a customs value of VNĐ1 million (US$39) or less.

This is one of the changes added to the latest draft of the Government’s Decree regulating customs management for goods exported and imported through e-commerce transactions, which is open for public consultation on the Government portal.

In addition to the usual categories of goods for regular exports and imports, this draft also includes regulations for new subjects such as operators of e-commerce platforms – such as Amazon in the US, Alibaba in China – and online retail websites such as eBay in the US.

Specifically, the Ministry of Finance proposed that goods imported through e-commerce transactions with a customs value of VNĐ1 million or less per order would be exempt from import tax.

Each individual or organisation would be eligible for this tax exemption for goods valued up to VNĐ48 million (nearly $1,900) per year.

Apart from the import tax exemption, other tax policies for goods exported and imported through e-commerce will follow existing regulations under tax laws.

Import tax would be also exempted for imported goods valued under VNĐ1 million sent via express delivery. — BIZHUB.VN/VNS
