The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for November is 0.13 per cent higher than October, mainly due to higher prices for electricity, housing rental and housing maintenance materials, data released by the General Statistics Office (GSO) on Friday showed.

Compared to November 2023, the CPI in November increased by 2.77 per cent.

In the 0.13 per cent CPI increase for November, eight groups of goods and services saw price increases, while three groups saw price decreases.

Among the eight groups with price increases, the group of housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials saw the highest increase, at 0.87 per cent. This was mainly due to a 3.57 per cent rise in kerosene prices, compared to the previous month and a 2.25 per cent increase in gas prices, which were adjusted upward in line with global gas prices.

By contrast, among the three groups with price decreases, the postal and telecommunications group saw the largest drop, at 0.3 per cent. The transportation group decreased by 0.07 per cent, while the food and beverage group decreased by 0.22 per cent.

According to the GSO, on average, core inflation for the first 11 months of 2024 increased by 2.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2023, which was lower than the average CPI increase of 3.69 per cent.

This was mainly due to the impact of food, electricity, education services and healthcare services, which increased the CPI, but are excluded from the basket of goods used to calculate core inflation.

The GSO also pointed out that domestic gold prices fluctuated in line with global gold prices. As of November 27, the average global gold price was US$2,696.8 per ounce, an increase of 0.12 per cent compared to October.

Domestically, the gold price index in November increased by 2.26 per cent from October and by 38.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. On average, for the first 11 months of 2024, the gold price index increased by 28.42 per cent.

Regarding the US dollar price index, as of November 27, the international US dollar price index reached 105.47 points, up 2.52 per cent from October.
