HCM CITY – University students and designers of all ages have been invited to take part in the Hoa Mai furniture design competition, which runs from October 11 to March 10.

Organised by the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCM City (Hawa), the competition aims to discover young design talents to contribute to the development of the domestic furniture design industry.

It also aims to connect producers and young Vietnamese designers in the field of interior design, according to Nguyen Quoc Khanh, the association's chairman.

Contestants will be provided with the latest design training courses, and will visit factories to learn about the process of making wood products.

Winning entries will be displayed at the Viet Nam International Furniture and Home Accessories Fair and at the International Furniture Fair Singapore next March in an effort to promote Vietnamese designs to the world market.

Khanh said the award-winning designs would be manufactured and sold in the market.

The last competition attracted 152 entries from 124 contestants nationwide. - VNS
