The HCM City People's Committee expects to approve the investment policy of the first phase of the HCM City - Mộc Bài expressway project under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract signed between the City People's Committee and investors.
The 51km-long expressway will link Ring Road No. 3 in HCM City’s Hóc Môn District with Mộc Bài, an international border gate between Việt Nam and Cambodia in Tây Ninh Province.
The first stage is expected to cost VNĐ19.6 trillion (US$858 million).
The new expressway is expected to reduce traffic pressure on National Highway No. 22, contributing to the socio-economic development of the city, Tây Ninh Province and neighboring countries, while shortening the time for transporting passengers and goods between the Southeast region and Cambodia through Mộc Bài International Border Gate.
The project also creates a driving force for connection, promoting cooperation and development of the Southeast region with the Mekong Delta, the Central Highlands and the South Central region.
According to the plan, the first phase of the expressway project will start construction in June 2025 and be completed in 2027 with at least four lanes.
In the second phase, by 2045, it will be expanded to six or eight lanes. – VNS
