HCM CITY — Non-profit MSD United Way Vietnam, the Community Chest of Korea and United Way Worldwide, with the support of philanthropist Park Jeong, are paving of a 1,322sq.m yard at the A Vao Semi-Boarding Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities in Quảng Trị Province.
They are also building a new functional room, renovating five classrooms and upgrading facilities at the A Bung Primary and Secondary School in the same province.
The two are underprivileged schools in the mountainous Dakrong District.
The classrooms at the latter school were in a severe state of disrepair, with broken window panes, crumbling walls and substandard desks and chairs.
They have 938 students, of whom over 90 per cent are ethnic minorities.
The charity works are part of the “Happy School” project carried out by MSD United Way Vietnam in remote and disadvantaged areas.
Nguyễn Thanh Bình, principal of the A Vao Semi-Boarding Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, said: "Today we are delighted to start the renovation of our facilities to enhance the learning and training environment for our students. Mountainous students face many challenges, and every bit of support is a tremendous encouragement for both teachers and students."
The works are expected to be completed between February and March 2025. — VNS
