CAN THO (Biz Hub) — The People's Committee of the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta city of Can Tho has set a target of attracting 1.3 million tourists, including 300,000 foreign arrivals, in 2014, which is 4 per cent higher than 2013.
According to Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thai Hoa, the city also hopes to earn VND1.1 trillion (US$52.4 million) from the tourism sector this year, a year-on-year rise of 13.4 per cent.
To achieve these goals, the locality plans to promote its tourist attractions and diversify its tourism products to meet the growing demands of tourists. It will also launch new eco-friendly tours in Can Tho and from the city to other provinces inside and outside the region.
The city also will work with An Giang and Kien Giang provinces to form a tourism triangle, while developing tours of rivers, the coast and the islands and mountains in the region.
The infrastructure network in 20 eco-tourism sites in the locality, which covers an area of almost 300ha, will be completed soon, while issues related to the environment and safety on popular tourist routes will also be resolved. — VNS
