HÀ NỘI —In 2025, the market surveillance force will prioritise carrying out tasks on anti-counterfeiting in e-commerce, aiming to create a healthy business market and ensure the rights and interests of enterprises and consumers.

They will also promote digitalisation in management and operation and focus on inspecting and handling violations in e-commerce platforms.

Trần Hữu Linh, head of Việt Nam Directorate of Market Surveillance, unveiled these tasks at a conference on market surveillance tasks in 2024 and 2025 held in Hà Nội on December 17.

In addition, the market surveillance force will coordinate with the media to promptly report on the inspection and handling of smuggling, trade fraud and trading in counterfeit and poor quality goods on the domestic market, thereby warning consumers about those violating goods.

According to Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyễn Hồng Diên, next year, the socio-economic situation and the industry and trade sector in particular are forecast to continue to have many difficulties and challenges.

The open economy along with the high growth rate of e-commerce will pose many difficult and complicated problems for market management. The situation of smuggling, trade fraud and trading in counterfeit and poor-quality goods is erupting and becoming increasingly sophisticated.

Participating in many trade agreements will bring advantages to Việt Nam's foreign trade activities, but also many problems in the management of imported goods, especially goods temporarily imported for re-export.

Minister Diên said that in 2025, the market management force needed to focus on fighting smuggling and trade fraud, creating a healthy production and business environment and promoting domestic production.

At the same time, they needed to proactively advise the Government and ministries, sectors and localities to issue or amend regulations, policies and mechanisms to improve the efficiency of the entire force's operations.

Especially, they have to focus on effectively implementing a plan to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the last months of 2024; as well as before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025 to ensure market stability.

Assessing the performance of market management, Linh said that in 2024, the market for essential goods was stable.

During the year, the force had strengthened the management of warehouses; and inspection and handling of violating business activities in the online environment.

They had strengthened supervision of petrol and oil stations and also inspected and handled violations in trading gold, petrol and tobacco products.

Notably, in the context of many fluctuations in domestic gold prices, the Việt Nam Directorate of Market Surveillance closely followed the market situation and directed its branches nationwide to promote management activities, and strictly handled many violations on the gold market, especially in HCM City, Quảng Ninh, An Giang, Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An.

In 2024, the market surveillance force inspected and handled 68,280 cases, down 5 per cent compared to the same period in 2023. The budget collection was over VNĐ541 billion, up 8 per cent year on year.

One of the highlights in the market inspection and control activities in 2024 was the inspection of the e-commerce platforms.

According to the Directorate of Market Surveillance, its branches in localities nationwide have established e-commerce teams to carry out the task of grasping the market and implementing professional measures relating to cases on e-commerce platforms. — VNS
