HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Air New Zealand announced last Friday that it plans to begin direct air services between Auckland and HCM City in June, starting with three flights a week with a possible expansion in future.

It will operate Boeing 767-300 aircraft on the route, and the flight will take 11 hours.

A spokesman for Air New Zealand said Viet Nam was an increasingly popular leisure destination.

Air New Zealand's chief executive Christopher Luxon was quoted by website http//www.stuff.co.nz as saying the service was significantly more convenient and quicker than the current indirect options to Viet Nam.

"The airline has selected HCM City as a new international destination for its tourism development strategy because the number of the country's travellers arriving in Viet Nam has increased 20 per cent in previous years, and this figure is forecast to continue rising." — VNS
