Agricultural strains, tech exhibition opens in HCM City

An exhibition of agricultural technologies and high-quality crop strains and animal breeds is being held at the Biotechnology Centre in HCM City’s District 12.
At the event that opened on August 18, 140 businesses and organisations from 22 provinces are showcasing their livestock and crop varieties, One Commune One Product agricultural products and modern technologies and farming models.
Dinh Minh Hiep, director of the HCM City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the event aims to “honour the city’s agricultural achievements.”
It also serves as an opportunity for businesses and co-operative groups to compare notes and find partners, he said.
An ornamental fish contest was held on August 18, with businesses promoting new breeds and successful fish farming models.
As part of the province''s development plan for the 2021-23 period with a vision to 2025, the province will build three concentrated agriculture, forestry, and fishery development areas, the provincial portal reported.
HCM City’s economy is on track for a robust recovery, with its projected Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) soaring to VNĐ1.78 quadrillion (US$70 billion) in 2024, marking a growth of 7.17 per cent.
The mutual recognition agreement (MRA) on Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) aligns with global trends and brings numerous business benefits while enhancing customs management efficiency.
The numbers investing in this sector remains modest, because the supportive mechanisms and policies for the investors are not attractive enough, according to experts.
