HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Asia-America Gateway (AAG) undersea cable will be repaired from February 25 to March 3, according to Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).

VNPT also reported that the repairs will affect Internet speed from Viet Nam to other countries.

Nguyen Hong Hai, deputy director of VNPT's Vietnam Datacommunications Company (VDC), told Vietnamplus online newspaper that the group has made careful preparations to help customers connect conveniently while the cable is being repaired.

Earlier, the cable was found cut 278 kilometres off the coast of Vung Tau City on December 20, 2013. This made it difficult for Internet users to connect with the rest of the world. The cut was repaired successfully on January 4.

The 20,000-kilometre undersea cable, which became operational in 2009, connects the Southeast Asian region directly to the United States. — VNS
