An oil and chemical tanker with a capacity of 6,500 tonnes was delivered to a company from the Republic of Korea (RoK) in the northern port city of Hai Phong on Monday.

The 109.45-metre-long YN GWANGYANG was designed by Asia Ship Design & Consultants Co Ltd and built by Pha Rung Shipbuilding One-member Co Ltd in Thuy Nguyen District of Hai Phong.

General Director of the shipbuilding company Vu Huu Chien said the tanker met high standards for technology, quality and stability. He said this showed the strength of his firm.

The company – a joint venture project between the Viet Nam and Finland – was inaugurated in 1984.

It has repaired thousands of ships over the past 35 years. Pha Rung has become a reputable firm for domestic ship owners as well as those from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, the RoK, Cuba, Greece and Belgium.

Kim Young-soo, president of BS Tanker – the owner of YN GWANGYANG, said he believed the successful building of the tanker will pave the way for the prosperous development of Viet Nam’s shipbuilding industry and RoK shipping companies in the future. — VNS
