DA NANG (Biz Hub) — Ho Si Dien, 20, a student from Da Nang Technology College has modified his sports bike, a Yamaha Exciter, into a unique and custom-designed motorbike.
Dien and members of the Da Nang-based X135 team spent 45 days to modify the under-135cc sports motorbike into a drag-racing motorbike at a cost of VND50 million (US$2,400).
The modified motorbike won first prize in an online design competition for custom-designed bikes.
"I bought the bike two years ago, but designing a new model has fascinated me for a long time. Our team, which consists of fans of the Yamaha Exciter, decided to create our first modified design," Dien told Bizhub.
"We added several new parts and accessories, including a bigger Sun racing cylinder, RRGS pump, a UMA racing fuel filter and air duct," he explained.
Dien, who is a student of mechanical engineering, also said he had to change the mono-shock absorber of the Yamaha Exciter into a Racing boy shock absorber to match the other modifications.
In addition, the exhaust pipe was replaced by a carbon-covered one, which creates roaring engine noise.
The hand bars were also changed to match the style of a modified bike.
Dien added that he did not change the four-level gear because it helped the bike move steadily.
However, the modified bike will only be on display at the team's office for now because it has not been granted permission to be used in public.
"Of course, we have to register the modified bike for permission to use it in public, but we wanted to showcase it as an original design attempt for bike lovers," he said.
He added the team would continue to make modifications to the bike. – VNS
