HA NOI (Biz Hub) — French tyre manufacturer Michelin will offer free tests for seven-seat cars across Viet Nam in an effort to help reduce road accident for drivers.
Under the programme "Safe journey with Michelin," launched in Ha Noi on September 9 in collaboration with the National Traffic Safety Committee, the two-week long campaign, running from September 21 to October 4, will apply the tests at 19 Michelin-authorised Service Centres.
The programme has been launched for six consecutive years. In addition to the free test, fun and educational activities related to traffic rules will be included for some 2,000 children at four primary schools in Ha Noi.
The campaign is designed to reinforce key road-safety messages, especially for youth in highly populated cities and provinces.
Customers will also have the opportunity to obtain a digital device to measure tyre pressure when buying Michelin products in the programme.
For the last five years, more than 21,000 cars have received tyre checks and consultations, and on average, 15 per cent of checked cars during the campaign period were underinflated. More than 70 per cent of drivers and car owners lacked knowledge about tyre care.
According to the National Traffic Safety Committee of Viet Nam, for the first eight months of the year, more than 14,600 cases of traffic accidents occurred, with 5,821 fatalities and 13,234 people injured.
Traffic accidents are mainly due to poor road-safety awareness, poor infrastructure and limited management and enforcement.
Michelin is one of the three largest tyre manufacturers in the world to design, produce and trade in tyre products for vehicles. The manufacturer employs 113,400 people in over 170 countries through 69 factories. — VNS
