HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Vietnam International Motor Show (VIMS 2016), the largest show of car importers, will take place in HCM City from October 26 to 30.

The event, organised by the Vietnam Car Importers' Association, will be attended by the importers of 19 well-known car brands, either imported or assembled in Viet Nam, such as Audi, Bentley, BMW and Jaguar, besides Porsche and Rolls Royce, compared to just nine importers at last year's event.

Laurent Genet, general director of the Audi importer firm in Viet Nam, said VIMS 2016 would showcase new car models for all segments of the market, along with car components, spare parts and accessories.

It will also feature a section for related financial and banking services and a seminar on Viet Nam's automobile industry.

The show at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre is expected to attract 120,000 visitors. Nearly 126,800 cars were sold in the Vietnamese market in the first half of this year, a 31 per cent year-on-year increase. On average, about 700 cars were bought each day.

The event follows the successful VIMS 2015, held in Ha Noi in October last year, which was the first motor show of its kind in Viet Nam.

It's reported that the five-day VIMS 2015 attracted more than 70,000 car lovers. About 200 deals were signed during the event.

In the first half of this year, Viet Nam imported nearly 49,900 cars worth more than US$1.21 billion, a fall of 9.1 per cent in quantity and 19.3 in value year-on-year.

The number of cars with nine seats and below, imported from Japan, was the largest with 3,700 units, worth $143 million, a year-on-year increase of 62 per cent in quantity and 103.3 per cent in value. It's followed by 3,600 Thai cars, worth $41 million and 1,600 units German cars, worth $51 million. — VNS
