HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Viettel Telecommunications Group (Viettel) will officially inaugurate its 4G pilot service in the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau today, a month after being granted licensing.

The group has been the first mobile network provider in Viet Nam to pilot the 4G service up to now.

The group had announced that it would debut the service in October, however, the group had not received a licence until late October.

To prepare, Viettel invested more than 200 base transceiver stations covering the residential areas in the cities of Vung Tau and Ba Ria and in Long Dien District.

Viettel will change SIM cards freely for customers to experience services on the 4G platform like watching HD movies, listening to music on the 4G platform and reading news with high speed.

According to the group, the average 4G speed in Vung Tau City is between 40-80 Mb/s, seven times higher than that of 3G and it could hit 230 Mb/s at some spots.

The group will organise six places for experiencing at trade centres, supermarkets and Viettel stores in the locality in the first week of piloting from December 12 - 18.

The province was chosen for 4G service piloting as it is an economic, financial and cultural and tourism hub in the southern region, according to the group.

The pilot will help provincial residents and foreign tourists experience services with high speed. — VNS
