Military-run telecommunications company Viettel is the only Vietnamese brand among the Top 400 most valuable brands globally.

The US brand valuation company Brand Finance recently released the Global 500 2020 report.

The report calculates the value of the brand at US$5.8 billion, increasing from $4.3 billion last year.

The report said that among telecoms operators that grew brand value this year, the top spot went to Viettel, recording an impressive 34 per cent growth and moving 126 spots up to 355th – the highest jump in the ranking this year.

In Asia, the company ranked in 102nd place. The brand ranked seventh in Southeast Asia.

The state-run telecommunications provider announced its consolidated revenue increased 7.4 per cent year-on-year.

“As the first telecoms company successfully tested a 5G network in Viet Nam, it is clear Viettel is planning for the future too,” said the report.

Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that Viettel was the only telecommunications enterprise in the world involved in the field of manufacturing telecommunication network equipment.

Viettel had successfully tested 5G calls on its device and was expected to publish the commercial version in June this year, he said.

Viettel also announced a two-year transformation strategy, from a telecom operator to a digital service provider and a pioneer in creating a digital society in the country and its ten foreign markets.

The Brand Finance report is conducted in 10 fields in 29 countries, with a sample size of over 50,000 adults over 18 years old.
