HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The number of Internet users in Viet Nam had reached 36 million and of them 25 million were Facebook users, according to a survey by Denmark's market research agency Epinion.

Out of the surveyed people, 97 per cent stated that their social network Facebook accounts were used to connect with friends and relatives, as well as to share experience, information and marketing.

The research also demonstrated that social networks were the most popular channels for users to share information, with 78 per cent selecting these. Meanwhile, 44 per cent chose emails and 21 per cent chose Internet-based voice and messaging services over-the-top, such as Viber, Skype and Zalo.

Besides, 60 per cent noted that they had unfriended with Facebookers updating meaningless statuses continuously, which worried them.

Meanwhile, 65 per cent agreed that they did not want to see negative statuses and 50 per cent had unfriended those who tagged them on stories but had no connection with them. Show-off statuses and game invitations were reasons for unfriending, with 49 per cent of the surveyed people choosing them.

Besides, 83 per cent agreed that they ticked on the button "like" when they came across hilarious statuses. Three-fourths liked updates on families and photographs of their friends' children. About 58 per cent liked updates on voluntary activities.

The survey was carried out by online interviews with over 1,000 Vietnamese people aged over 18 years.

In January, statistics from the London-based social media agency WeAreSocial revealed that Viet Nam had a total population of over 92.4 million people, with more than 36.1 million Internet users and 20 million active Facebook users. — VNS
